When Maryanne moved into her new home in the suburbs of Chicago, she was excited to finally have a big backyard where she could start her own garden. She carefully tended to her plants, watching them grow and flourish day by day.

But one morning, she woke up to find that her prized tomato plant had been completely stripped bare of its fruit. She was devastated. Who could have done such a thing?

Determined to catch the culprit, Maryanne set up a surveillance camera and kept a close eye on her garden. And sure enough, a few nights later, the camera caught a shadowy figure sneaking into the yard and stealing her produce.

Maryanne knew she had to act fast. She couldn’t let this thief get away with stealing from her garden. So, she came up with a plan.

She installed motion-activated sprinklers around her garden, so that any time someone entered the yard, they would get doused with water. And just a few nights later, the sprinklers went off.

Maryanne watched on her camera as the thief scrambled to get away, soaked to the bone. She called the police and gave them the footage, and soon enough, they had the culprit in custody.

It turned out to be a neighborhood kid who had been stealing from gardens all around the area. But thanks to Maryanne’s detective work and garden ingenuity, he was caught and brought to justice.

From that day on, Maryanne’s garden remained safe and secure, and she continued to enjoy the fruits of her labor without fear of theft.
